A Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations.Simply put, a MUN is a small-scale version of the UN assembly and decision-making process.
MUN involves and teaches researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
Throughout the conference, you play the role of a delegate of a country to the United Nations. Thus, during debate, you express the point of view of your country (and not your personal opinion).
Discussions will be held in English, however we will provide translations for delegates when necessary.
Specific vocabulary is to be used during the conference. To better understand this, we recommend watching this and reading the "how to prepare for RILMUN" section of this page.

Clauses express what the main submitter of the resolution thinks other countries and organizations should do to help improve the situations linked with the issue.
Each of these should begin with a verb (operative phrase) that is underlined and should end with a semicolon. The solutions should be not only original but also practical in real-life situations.
Each clause should only outline a single idea/proposal beginning with a number ("1." "2." ...) and be as specific as possible. The usage of sub-clauses (beginning with "a." "b.") and sub-sub-clauses ("i." "ii.") are encouraged for further explanation of the proposal.
To summarize :
*Clauses should be numbered ;
*Each clause should support one another and continue to build your solution ;
*Add details to your clauses in order to have a complete solution ;
*Clauses are punctuated by a semicolon, with the exception of your last clause, which should end with a period.
Reminder money is not an issue in the MUN !

At the Historical Security Council, we will be bringing you back in time to stage debates in which you will take the place of past delegations to the UN Security Council, one of the organisations' major institutions. At RILMUN 2017 three such Council meetings will be held, for which the HSC participating delegations will play the roles of three different UN members states at three different points in history. Our three issues all concern major refugee crises : the aftermath of WWII in Eastern Europe, the devolution of Yugoslavia and the African Great Lakes quagmire. For each of these, you will find a detailed research report below, which will help you to understand the issues at hand for each Council meeting.
We hope that the slightly different setting of the HSC will prove extremely useful to grasp the importance of modern-day geopolitical developments.
Please find the country list here.
Notes on the distribution of countries
Concerning the post-WWII debate, we will assume that Sweden, Finland and Hungary had already at this point joined the UN. Germany and Austria are not represented as they were officially governed by Allied forces.
Concerning the Yugoslavian debate, the state named FR Yugoslavia was the official title of Serbia under Slobodan Milošević (controlling central Serbia and Serbia-Vojvodina, Kosovo and Montenegro) ; once again we have included it into the debate despite the fact that it did not join the UN until 2000.
